How to Serve Legal Papers
The Burnett County Sheriff's Office is responsible for the service of legal papers in Burnett County. If you have papers to be served, please provide the Sheriff's Office with two copies of the document with the most current information possible in regards to the person to be served. Completion of an Information Sheet is required with each paper for service.
Fees
Payments can be made by check, money order or exact cash amounts in person at the Burnett County Sheriff's Office or by US Mail / Overnight Mail. Please review the attached fee schedule and complete the attached Information Sheet to accompany all documents for civil process
*Notice* Effective March 1st, 2023 general civil process service fees will increase. Please refer to the 2023 Fee Schedule for information.
How to Obtain a Restraining Order
A Temporary Restraining Order can be obtained at the Clerk of Court's Office Monday thru Friday 8:30a.m - 4:30p.m. Please contact them at 715-349-2147 for criteria on how to obtain a restraining order.
Foreclosure Sales
Foreclosure sales are held in the main lobby of the Burnett County Government Center (7410 County Road K, Siren, WI) on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month promptly at 10:00 am. Sale notices are advertised in the Burnett County Sentinel for three consecutive weeks prior to a sale. Please note that sales are subject to cancellation or postponement at any time prior to the sale. Unless otherwise indicated, a 10% down payment in the form of certified funds is required the day of the sale, payable to the Burnett County Clerk of Courts.
Auction Info: A sheriff’s deputy holds the sale, being a fair and impartial party. The sale is in the form of an auction. The highest bidder is awarded the property.
Bidder Info: The successful bidder must post 10% of the winning bid at the time of the sale. It is to be in the form of cash, money order, or cashier’s check (made to the Clerk of Courts), per the official Notice of Sale. Personal checks are not accepted.
IMPORTANT: If there are questions regarding the property, you will need to contact the attorney listed on the lower left-hand corner of the notice. It is the responsibility of the bidder to check for back taxes, liens, judgments, etc. that are attached to the property.
